"Blind Date With a Book" introduces readers to new genres
DAYTON-There is a new activity for readers at the Dayton Memorial Library, called "Blind Date with a Book."
During the month of February, readers can check out books written by authors with February birthdays. However, there is a catch.
The contents of the books are unknown, because they are wrapped in plain brown paper, with only subtle clues provided as to their contents.
Some of the clues written on the wrappings are: A small town – A preacher with an agenda, really scary guy with a big nose, A beautiful young girl – who will win, and a handsome young quarterback needs a date in Italy.
Readers can choose from categories including DVD, easy reader, junior fiction, young adult and adult.
"Blind Date with a Book" is the brainchild of library director Dusty Waltner, who hopes the activity will broaden people's reading selections.
Library employees Vicki Zoller and Lorna Barth agree, but add there is an element of plain old fun to the concept.
"It's a great way to read something outside of your preferred genre," said Zoller.
"It's a date," Barth said, with a smile. "You don't have to marry it."
