Dayton boys complete Coach Hutchens' 1st season, with 6 wins
WAITSBURG – Waitsburg and Dayton traded leads through three quarters in their matchup here Friday night, before the Cardinals went on a 13-0 run in the fourth to pull out a 59-45 win.
The loss ended Dayton's season with a 4-8 record in the SE 2B District 9 league and a 6-14 overall record.
The Cardinals ended the regular season with the fourth seed, going into the league tournament. They sport a 6-6 league record, 11-9 overall.
The Cardinals trailed Dayton 23-20 at halftime and moved into a 31-27 lead at the end of the third, before pulling away for the win.
Cardinal scoring was led by Jacob Dunn, with 16 points, including a three pointer. Jason Carter had 12 and Kyle Gradwohl added 11. Dunn and Gradwohl each pulled down nine rebounds. Carter had four assists.
For Dayton, Zach Waggoner had 15 points, and Tanner Bren added 11. Ben Kleck had 10 points, including two three-pointers. Bren had seven rebound in the game.
Waitsburg was set to travel to Asotin Tuesday to take on the Panthers.
