Teddy Bear Tea Serves Students and Teachers

Popular Annual fundraiser is Feb. 27

WAITSBURG – Four Waitsburg teachers each recently received $200 mini-grants from the Walla Walla-Columbia School Retirees Association. The mini-grants, as well as scholarships for local students, are funded largely by the group's annual Teddy Bear Tea fundraiser.

This year's tenth annual Teddy Bear Tea will take place from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 at the St. Francis Catholic Church Social Hall, located at 722 W. Alder Street in Walla Walla.

According to group member Joan Helm, the association has had a busy year with Walt Gobel presiding as president. The group has 400 retired members and 230 members still actively employed.

Mini-grant Chairman Pam Conover presented $200 mini-grants to members Carol Clarke, Kathy Somers-Schirm, Roseann Groom, and Jeff Bartlow last week. The grant monies may be used at the discretion of the recipients.

Admission to the Teddy Bear Tea is $6.00 and includes the tea and exhibits, store, photographer, coloring activities, story time corner, and silent auction. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Two handmade teddy bears will be on display and tickets will be available for a raffle to be held on March 14.  Proceeds support the scholarships for future teachers and related education personnel.

All school retirees, not just teachers, are eligible to belong to this group.  For more information regarding membership or the Teddy Bear Tea please contact Joan Helm at 337-6318.
