Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Dear Editor,
Those running for national office could learn much about civility and actually answering constituent questions from candidates for Waitsburg mayor and city council. At the candidate forum held March 25 at The Q, the candidates stated why each was interested and willing to run for office. Each candidate also clearly answered questions asked by audience members.
During the question and answer portion candidates gave their opinions, in response to a question, on what is needed for Waitsburg to survive and evolve in the future. The variety of positive ideas was thought-provoking. Those voters who attended may have an easier time choosing based on answers given by candidates.
Based on historic voter participation in city elections the low number of attendees at the forum was disappointing but not surprising. Since there are choices for both mayor and council positions it is hoped voter participation will improve since the ideas presented by candidates varied.
