Mia Becker grand slam highlights 9-run 2nd inning in Game 2
DAYTON – After spotting the Prescott Tigers four runs in the top of the first inning of the first game, the Dayton Lady Bulldogs fought back to take a 10-7 win on the way to a sweep on Saturday.
Prescott took a 6-3 lead into the fourth inning, but the Bulldogs came up with seven runs in the fourth and fifth, to seal the win.
"The girls chipped away and got the job done," said Dayton assistant coach Desirae Jones. "Kellie Moore had 2 hits with 3 RBIs in the first game."
Savannah McFarland and Destiny Brincken also had two hits each in the first game for Dayton. Deja Williams, Bailey Adams, and Devon Harshman had two hits apiece for the Lady Tigers.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs rode a nine-run second inning, capped by a Mia Becker grand slam, to take a 16-2 win in a five-inning "mercy-rule-shortened" game.
Moore and Hanna Becker had two hits each for Dayton. Tayler Jones had three hits for Prescott, and Adams had two.
"In game two, the girls showed a lot of focus," said Dayton coach Jones. "We jumped ahead and stayed ahead with one error on defense and discipline at the plate."
Prescott coach Angie Potts said, "We started out really well, hitting the ball with solid contact and playing good defense. Dayton went to small ball to push runs across and we didn't make adjustments based on the situation and the score. "
The Lady Bulldogs were to host Colton Monday and travel to Pomeroy Tuesday and Mac-Hi Wednesday. They play DeSales in Walla Walla Saturday.
Prescott traveled to Burbank Tuesday and will host TCP Saturday.
