Team building activities help members work together better
WAITSBURG – Waitsburg Chapter FFA officers spent last weekend at an officer's retreat where they set chapter goals, planned the upcoming year, and practiced working together as a team.
On Sat., Aug. 13, officers Emily Adams (president), Devin Newman (vice president), Laramie Mathews (sentinel), Tom House (treasurer), Devon Harshman (reporter), and Sydney Fowble (secretary) traveled to Spokane with FFA advisor Nicole Abel. Abel organized the trip, but didn't let the kids in on the plans until they arrived.
The group first visited ESCAPE as part of a team- building exercise. At ESCAPE teams are placed in a themed escape room which is a real life puzzle where the participants must use different elements in the room to unlock clues, solve puzzles, and eventually escape, within a set amount of time.
"It was hard but a lot of fun. We learned a lot about each other and how we work under pressure. It really worked the mind and was a good team bonding activity," Adams said.
The officers then had fun at Get Air Trampoline Park and spent time setting goals and planning for the coming year before returning to Dayton, where they camped overnight on Wolf Fork Creek. They finished up their planning on Sunday before heading home.
The theme for the coming FFA year is NEAT, an acronym that stands for:
N – nurturing potential through agriculture education
E – exploring our future to the best of our ability
A – allowing personal and chapter growth and development
T – together through encouraging teamwork and responsibility, we can accomplish our purpose
"I am excited for a busy and productive year." Abel said. "Last year, the members set the stage; now we are going to keep the ball rolling. The officers are motivated and have many ideas. My job will be to hold the reins and keep them focused on what they can realistically handle. They are busy kids involved in many activities. It is going to be a great year at the high school as a whole."
