Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Coach Angie Potts's varsity team features three seniors and four juniors
WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg varsity volleyball team should be significantly improved from last year, featuring a veteran team of seven seniors and juniors. The lineup includes six-foot-two-inch senior Analisea Araya and six-foot sophomore Devon Harshman.
"We're ahead of where we were at last year in terms of what we're able to do offensively and our defense is working hard to be disciplined enough to be in position so that they can read and react to the other team," said Waitsburg coach Angie Potts.
"Our biggest benefit is that the majority of the girls on varsity saw substantial playing time last year and are bringing some experience which we've been lacking for a while," she added.
Waitsburg has moved down to the 1B class this year, due to decreased school enrollment and the dissolution of the Waitsburg-Prescott combine.
"With a change to the 1B league, we're not going to be as familiar with some of the teams that we're going to be playing but we have high expectations for the season," Potts said.
Potts's assistant coaches this year are Tammy Brown and Jaidyn Brown.
The Lady Cardinals begin playing Riverside at home at 6 p.m. They host a tournament Saturday.
