Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - On Oct.19 at 7 p.m. the Dayton high school SHEO club, and the Coalition for Youth and Families, will present the documentary film “Reslience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope”, at the Liberty Theater.
“Resilience” is a followup to the 2015 documentary film “Paper Tigers”, which followed six “at risk” students at Lincoln High School in Walla Walla.
This film, also directed by James Redford, follows some pioneering individuals who looked into research about adverse childhood experiences (ACES), and illustrates how they applied that information.
On Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., SHEO and CYF will sponsor a presentation by James Sporleder, who was the principal of Lincoln High School, when the documentary “Paper Tigers” was filmed. Sporleder will speak about his current work as a trauma-informed coach/consultant and trainer, with the Children’s Resilience Initiative in Walla Walla.
Under Sporleder’s leadership, Lincoln High School gained a national reputation as a “Trauma-Informed” school, due to a dramatic decrease in out-of-school suspensions, increased graduation rates, and the number of students going on to post-secondary education.
