WAITSBURG – Running on their home course in the District 9 Championships on Saturday, Waitsburg’s Emily Adams and Landon Callas each brought home first-place trophies.
The Waitsburg boys’ team also won the team championship.
“It was a great day for a race, sunny and warm,” said Waitsburg coach Ann Adams. “The rain from the day before created a mud pit on the back side of the course and a little bit of slippery terrain. Across the board though times were good.”
Callas finished first with a time of 17:29.23. Teammate Skylar Wood was second with a time of 18:33.92, which was a personal record.
“Landon started out strong and determined. He kept the pace and continued to dominate the boys side of the meet,” said Adams. “Skylar has made some huge improvements this year. This was a big one for him on home turf.”
Daltin Lambert was fourth, in 19:43.8. Tom House placed ninth with a time of 21:41.24, and TJ Morrison took 12th with a time of 23:40.08.
Emily Adams ran her second-fastest 5k time ever to take the girls’ title, with a time of 19:23.0. “Emily ran a smart race and finished very strong with a tremendous kick to the finish,” said coach Adams.
