Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON—The Kiwanis Club of Dayton will hold its annual Turkey Bingo event in the Dayton Elementary School Multipurpose Room, on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. It’s the club’s biggest money maker of the year.
“Get there early if you want a good seat. We sell out every year,” cautioned Kiwanian Kim Lyonnaise.
Bingo card sales begin when the doors open, and hamburgers, chili burgers, hotdogs, dessert and refreshments, will be available at 3 p.m., as well, said Lyonnaise. Games begin at 4 p.m.
“There are some dedicated and committed Bingo players in this region,” said Lyonnaise, who was instrumental in organizing Turkey Bingo 30 years ago, and is still pitching it.
This year the Kiwanis Club plans to “wow” the community with the number of prizes and gift certificates that can be won.
Lyonnaise said the list of grand prizes includes an overnight stay at the Clover Island Inn in Kennewick, 18 holes of golf at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland, two tickets to Silverwood in Idaho, lift tickets and a season pass to Ski Bluewood, two rounds of golf and a one night stay at Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Pendleton, a one night stay and massage at the Coeur d’Alene Casino and Resort in Worley, Idaho, and much more.
Other prizes were donated by Rey’s Roast Coffee, Puget Sound Energy, the Wenaha Gallery, and the Dayton Historic Depot.
Gift certificates are offered by Fiesta en Jalisco, Dingle’s Hardware, Blue Valley Acupuncture, Moose Creek Café, Patit Creek Restaurant, Ray’s Drive-In, Rooster’s Brew and the Village Shoppes.
Also, 110 turkeys have been donated through the generous support of Blue Mountain Chiropractic, Northwest Grain Growers, State Farm Insurance, Columbia REA, Broughton Land Co. and Dave Smith Motors, said Lyonnaise.
Lyonnaise said the Dayton Kiwanis Club is all about supporting kids. “One-half, or better, will go to scholarships, to further educational opportunities,” he said about fundraising efforts.
This year, support will go toward scholarships for girls to participate in a new Girl Scout troup in Dayton, he said.
The state FBLA competition, the robotics club, the school band, and other after school programs, such as 4-H, have benefitted from the Kiwanis Club of Dayton’s fundraising efforts, said Lyonnaise.
Lyonnaise said he would like to thank all those who donated to Turkey Bingo, especially Columbia REA, Columbia County Transportation, Rachel Cortez, Umpqua Bank, and Washington Federal Bank for their support.
