BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The season ended for the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers football team here Saturday, as they lost a heartbreaker to Baker University in the semifinals of the NAIA championships, 45-41.
Led by their quarterback, former Waitsburg high standout Zach Bartlow, the mountaineers built a 17-point lead, 41-24, with less than six minutes left in the game, but Baker rallied with two TDs in the next two minutes to close to within 41-38.
The game-winning score for Baker came on a 77-yard touchdown pass with 38 seconds remaining.
In his final game as a Mountaineer, Bartlow completed 21 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t throw an interception. He also rushed for 61 yards.
