Waitsburg Brings Home State KB Trophy

Dayton places seventh among 2B schools

ARLINGTON, Wash. – The Waitsburg Knowledge Bowl team brought home a third-place trophy at the state 1B level and Dayton placed seventh out of 18 2B schools at the State Knowledge Bowl competition at Arlington High School on Saturday.

"The first and second-place schools were high-priced private schools from the west side, so WHS was actually the first place public school. It was the best finish in WHS Knowledge Bowl history," said Waitsburg KB coach Brad Green.

"You would have been proud to see our kids compete. They worked hard (mentally) all day long, answering a total of 350 questions from every aspect of high school educational topics," he added.

Waitsburg was one of twelve 1B competing schools. In the finals, following six morning eliminations, Waitsburg faced off against Pope John Paul II, West Sound Academy, Odessa, Riverside Christian, and Almira-Coulee-Hartline.

Waitsburg's Team One members are: Captain Cade Branson, Scott Leamy, Robert Walsh, Gillian Pope, Leena Baker, and Kevin Murphy. Also attending were second team members Riley Witt, Julia Taylor, Tom House, Anna Miller, plus five parents and Coach Green.

Dayton's Knowledge Bowl Team One, coached by Doug Yenney, took seventh place among 18 competing 2B schools. Dayton was among the nine 2B finalists that included Liberty Bell, St. George's, Tonasket, Ocosta, Soap Lake, Manson, Harrison Prep, and NW Christian.

Dayton's Team One members are: Jacob Breaux, Cal Martin, Zech Bryan, Neylan Bryan, and Jennifer Warren.
