YAKIMA – Seniors Landon Callas and Emily Adams put in strong performances at Waitsburg's first meet of the season at East Valley High School here Saturday.
Callas won the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the 110 hurdles. Adams placed second in the triple jump, third in the 800 Meters, fourth in the 3200 and 11th in the long jump.
The Cardinal track team started their season competing against teams from all over the region at the Papa Wells track meet. The meet consisted of 27 teams from all division sizes, from 1B to the 4A division. Waitsburg was one of four 1B teams competing.
Also for the Lady Cards, Freshman Kirsten Miller, competing in the Freshman/Sophomore division, placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, ninth in the shot put and 12th in the 100 meters.
The Waitsburg track team is being coached for the first time this year by Lanny Adams. Ann Adams is his assistant.
On Thursday, Waitsburg will compete in the Buck Track Classic in Pendleton. They will travel to Colfax on Saturday for the MacDougall Invite.
