Gladys Lee Crabb Ferguson was born October 10, 1929, in St.John, Washington to Bernard Vincent Crabb and Minnie Melissa Bell Billingsly Crabb. She was the sixth of eight children. She moved to Starbuck, Washington as an infant and attended Starbuck schools. Gladys married Richard J. Ferguson, from Missouri, on November 20, 1947.
Richard and Gladys moved to Bertha, Missouri where their son, Rick was born. They returned to Columbia County and lived on farms in the Fields Gulch and Alto areas. Their daughter, Gwynneth, was born in Dayton in 1950.
Gladys was active in her local community with Grange and church. She worked for Green Giant in the summer and also cooked for wheat harvest crews.
Gladys and Dick moved to Huntsville in 1967 after many years of living on the farm. Gladys continued to work for Green Giant and later for the Washington State Highway Department and Waitsburg Post Office. She enjoyed her membership in the Dayton Assembly of God Church and Dayton TOPS.
Gladys was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed attending all of her family’s activities. During the summer, the grandchildren could always be found at her house.
One of the family’s favorite memories is Sunday fried chicken dinner at Grandma’s.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Dick. She is survived by her son, Rick Ferguson of Waitsburg and daughter, Gwynneth Neace of Dayton, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis Julian.
Services were held Monday, May 8, 2017 in Dayton, WA with burial in Starbuck, WA. Memorial donations may be made to the Starbuck Cemetery, Waitsburg Grange #1 or a charity of choice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
