Dayton team will be seeded second at state tournament this weekend in Yakima
EPHRATA, Wash. – On Saturday, the Dayton softball team traveled to Ephrata to battle in the D5/D6 Regional Tournament. The Dawgs beat Liberty Bell and DeSales to put them in the championship game, where they were defeated by Brewster for the number one seed for the State 2B tournament this weekend.
Against Liberty Bell, Dayton tallied 13 hits to take them to victory, winning 11 – 4. The Lady Bulldogs scored seven runs in the second inning to take the lead, and never looked back. For Dayton, Savannah McFarland hit a triple and a double. Megan Robins also had a triple, and Mia Becker hit a double. Tatumn Laughery and Kaleigh White each had three hits in the game.
Dayton beat the DeSales Irish 1-0, with the lone run coming in the fifth inning. White hit a double in the game with just five total hits tallied for the Bulldogs. The Irish got three hits, but facing a strong Dayton defense, couldn’t put anything together to score.
In the Championship game, Dayton stayed even against Brewster, tied at two after the second inning. But in the third inning, Brewster scored four runs to take the lead. Dayton was able to put two more runs on the board in the sixth, but couldn’t get the needed runs to overtake Brewster. Hannah Becker belted a triple and a double, while Mia Becker had a double. Hannah Becker and Robins each had three hits in the game.
The Bulldogs are now 16-9 on the season and will enter the state tournament Friday in Yakima, seeded 2nd.
“We had exceptional pitching today, with focused defense. The girls left it all on the field,” said Dayton Assistant Coach Desirae Jones. “Playing three games on our first hot day of the season was challenging. Everyone contributed to a very successful day for the Bulldogs. From senior leadership to freshmen stepping up when asked.”
