Waitsburg Seeks Enrichment and Opportunities Levy

District is asking for a $2.71/$1,000 replacement levy

WAITSBURG – Voters in the Waitsburg School District will be asked to continue supporting schools by approving an Educational Programs and Operations (EPO) of $2.71 per $1,000 of assessed property value on the Feb. 13 ballot. If passed, the levy will replace the current M&O levy which was approved in 2016 and expires in 2018.

Board members settled on the $2.71 per $1,000 figure to allow for an increase in Walla Walla County property taxes as the result of the McCleary Decision (EHB 2242), estimated at $0.84 per $1,000 of assessed value. The $2.71 from the district, along with the $0.84 from the county, equals the current 2016 voter-approved levy rate of $3.55.

If approved, the district would collect $520,846 in 2019 and $562,433 in 2020. Of course, that will depend on what happens in the legislature. Cu
