Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Experienced upperclassmen will lead team as season starts this week
DAYTON—New Dayton-Waitsburg volleyball coach Tara Brenner says she has high hopes for this season’s first-ever DW combine volleyball team.
“We have a great turn out of athletic young ladies that are excited and hopeful for a successful combine Volleyball season,” Brenner said. “Playing in the State Championship this year is our number-one goal.”
She added, “As League approaches we are working on creating an unstoppable defense and a quick offense.”
DW’s varsity team includes eight Waitsburg girls and five from Dayton. Waiting in the wings are JV team members, including nine from Dayton and three from Waitsburg. All are freshmen and sophomores.
“Our varsity has many returning experienced players, with Kaleigh White and Devon Harshman leading the middle, Neylan Bryan and Kailyn Lewis as the brave and aggressive outside hitters, and Tatumn Laughery and Shaelyn Fortier as the defensive specialists,” Brenner said. “Watch out for our younger selfless setters Teagen Larson and Mya Wood.”
The DW girls began their season this week with matches in Oakesdale on Tuesday and at Weston-Athena on Wednesday. They play their first home match in Dayton on Sept. 18 against DeSales.
The Team will play three home matches this season in Dayton and three in Waitsburg.
