Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Dear Editor,
I have known Cathy McMorris Rodgers for much of my life, as my father, Perry Dozier, worked with Cathy when he was State officer for Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and later as Walla Walla County Commissioner. She is a leader that I have looked up to becoming one day. Her knowledge, attention to detail, innovation, and leadership make her the reasons why the 5th district needs her.
When it comes to being an advocate for education, Cathy is the leader of the charge. I was fortunate to interact with her when I was a leader at WSU on the student government. Cathy took the time to evaluate what I and our team had to say and advocated it across to state and federal leaders. Her impact has had recent positive change when she supported and championed the Empowering Students through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act that passed the House last month. Cathy has also hired recent college graduates to her staff which gives her the ability to listen firsthand what students face financially.
Cathy is a protector of taxpayers’ dollars. When it comes to the dollars we spend, Cathy is a strong supporter for a balanced budget amendment, line-item veto, and encouraging fellow members to limit government spending to 20% of the U.S. economy. Today, our government is spending around 25%. Cathy reintroduced the Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act last year that sets out to force Congress to reevaluate expired government programs before funding them. This is important because these programs live like “zombies” and keep absorbing taxpayer dollars.
My father, Perry Dozier, and Cathy have maintained their relationship from the time she was elected to Congress. He said Cathy has always had a strong interest in Eastern Washington from the day he met her. She understands our vital needs for our agriculture industry and has protected the Snake River dams, which are a major source of transportation and irrigation for our agriculture products. She knows the loss of these would severely impact the economy of Eastern Washington.
Cathy is a bridge builder, a champion of collaboration across the aisles, and she is always accessible and willing to help with any issues raised. I am proud to say that Cathy doesn’t just represent one piece of the 5th District moreover; she represents the entire area with pride! Join me and my family, Perry, Darleen, Kyle and myself and vote Cathy!
