WAITSBURG—The Waitsburg Parks and Recreation Board is now hosting public meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Present at the most recent meeting were board members Danielle Carpenter, Justin Stegall, Wyatt Withers and Sandra Morrison.

Treasurer Wyatt Withers reported a balance of $1,417, with no deposits or debits pending.

Old Business

The board discussed possible postponement for the planned levy initiative, due to the Dec. 14 deadline fast approaching.

A proposed budget was submitted to Walla Walla County Oct. 9 for 2018 and 2019.

The board discussed the recent Movie in the Park success, and a means of increasing attendance and maintaining the event through the winter season.

New Business

The board studied MRSC OPMA guidelines for governing bodies and participated in online training for public office.

Drafting a two-to-five-year strategic plan was supported unanimously. The use of a third-party facilitator was mentioned and will be a future action item.

The group is also planning community outreach. They discussed installing a dog bag dispenser in Preston Park. Stegall will look into pricing resources or purchase options. The board is also pursuing options to support upcoming Halloween events.

The board unanimously agreed to open a P.O. Box at the Waitsburg Post Office for official business. Morrison will check into availability.
