Waitsburg Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Report

October 25, 2018

WAITSBURG—Board members Danielle Carpenter, Justin Stegall, Wyatt Withers and Sandra Morrison were in attendance at the Oct. 25 meeting.

Treasurer Withers reported a balance of $1,417, with no deposits or debits pending.

New Business:

The board unanimously passed a motion to postpone seeking a levee this spring until further budget research and a two-to-five-year strategic plan is developed.

The board is drafting a letter of intent to present the city council with regarding the fairgrounds grandstands.

Morrison has secured a P.O. Box at the Waitsburg Post Office.

Carpenter will be reaching out to past Parks & Rec board members for input.

The board also voted unanimously to begin drafting the strategic plan. The use of a third-party facilitator was discussed and will be a future action item in moving forward with strategic planning.

The group’s outreach efforts continue as they consider installation of a dog bag dispenser for Preston Park. Stegall found dispensers in the $100 range with an additional $80 cost for bags. The board will look into having one made.

Carpenter will look into forming a partnership with Waitsburg High School shop class to create Parks and Rec signage.

Carpenter reports that Town Hall Board is supporting movie nights at Town Hall. The next event is tentatively planned for Nov. 17 and will be Thanksgiving themed.

The board discussed supporting an information table at Waitsburg’s Pop-Up Night.

Parks & Rec meetings are held every second and fourth Thursday and the public is encouraged to attend. Next Meeting Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Location to be determined.
