"I am Number Four" by Pittacus Lore

With a movie by the same name released in 2011, this book is an excellent choice for any young adult reluctant readers. The story centers around "Number 4," an extraterrestrial from a planet called Lorien being hunted by warriors from a planet called Mogadore. The Loriens can only be defeated in the order of the numbers they were assigned, and the book begins with the death of number 3. Throughout the book Number 4 is on the run, but manages to fall in love and build a relationship or two. There's also plenty of action.

"Surviving Justice" compiled by Lola Vollen & Dave Eggers

This book is a collection of oral histories from 13 different people. These people come from all walks of life with vastly different stories, but were all imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. These stories include that of Paul Terry and Beverly Monroe. Terry spent twenty-seven years wrongfully imprisoned and emerged "psychologically devastated and barely able to communicate". Monroe was an organic chemist who was coerced into falsely confessing to the murder of her lover- she must rebuild from the ground up after seven years behind bars.

"Hidden Peril" by Irene Hannon

This book centers around Kristin Dane, the owner of a free trade store with international stock. The book kicks off with the murder of a monk, and follows the ensuing investigation. More murders occur and the common factor seems to be Kristin's shop. This novel is an interesting blend of thriller, and christian fiction. This novel is by the same author as the patron recommended series "Men of Valor."
