Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Committee will serve as a laisian between comunity and staff, with focus on bullying
WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg Superintendent Advisory Committee has met three times and has nailed down a purpose statement and action plan. The committee was formed in the last quarter of 2018 as an advisory committee to the superintendent.
Committee Chair Matt Wyatt shared the following goals with the board:
Identify all needs and goals among community, parents and students to increase the communication and effectiveness of the district/community
Provide the superintendent with feedback and insight to ensure that the needs of ALL are included as decisions are made in the district.
Bring forth existing and emerging issues with complete transparency.
Serve as an advisory, not a decision-making body, that makes recommendations, encourages brainstorming and provides opportunities for involvement.
Advocate for students, parents and community members.
Wyatt said the goal of the committee is to be as transparent as possible. He said the next goal is to come up with a safe way for students to report bullying or danger anonymously and right away, as the situation occurs.
The committee is made up of community members, staff and students. Parent/community members are: Dorothy Bush, Kara Kaehler, Ashley Katsel, Jaimee Knudson, Stephanie Parrish and Matt Wyatt. District staff includes: Gabe Kiefel, Stephanie Hinchliffe, Karen Huwe and Jon Mishra. Student representatives have yet to be determined.
The committee will meet next on Jan. 23.
