Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WALLA WALLA— The Kirkman House Museum, located at 214 N. Colvillve St. in Walla Walla, will host a Mothers’ Day Victorian Tea on Sat., May 11, at 1:00 p.m. The event will feature all the finery and elements of a high tea accompanied by a vintage fashion show.
Restoration at the Kirkman House Museum began last fall. Work has been completed on the basement foundation and walls. The basement earth floors have been concreted which will reduce moisture levels and the basement can now be used for storage of collections and administrative items which provides much needed working areas upstairs. The steps at the front entry were demolished and rebuilt to match photos from the early 1880s.
The cost of the total restoration project is $300,000, of which the museum has raised all but $12,000. This amount must be funded by the end of June to meet the grant requirements and have the restoration project completed.
Mothers, daughters and friends are sure to enjoy this special Mother’s Day Tea event. Tickets may be purchased by calling (509) 529-4373 or in person during regular hours. Tickets are $25.00 for non-members and $20.00 for museum members. Reservations are required.
