Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Boardman, Oregon

Around the Valley: With Karen Huwe

Despite the heavy rain Friday night, we enjoyed a nice weekend at Boardman RV Park and Marina in Boardman, Oregon.  Saturday was cloudy with just a little rain late afternoon, but at least we did not wake up to 3-inches of snow as hunters did on Eckler Mountain. Sunday was a gorgeous, sunny day, the day we had to head back home.

On Friday afternoon, we toured the Sage Center Museum, a short distance from the campground.  Boardman has a lot of industries, and the Sage Center Museum and visitor center is a place to learn about those industries, agriculture, technology, irrigation, food processing, energy and more. The Center has added classrooms for events and free educational school visits. "How does a potato get from the field to your table? Visit the Museum to learn about that, try the hands-on exhibit of milking a cow, ride in the indoor hot air balloon, watch a film in the 200-seat theater and enjoy some Tillamook ice cream.

At the RV campground, there is plenty of space between sites. The grass is green, and there are a lot of shady trees. We ride our bikes or take walks on the three-mile paved trail along the Columbia River. As you walk the trail, there is exercise equipment along the path if you wish to do a few tricep dips, pull-ups, or other muscle-building workouts.

Walking east along the trail, we saw the Captain Al James, an eighty-one-foot tug, moored along the path. We enjoyed refreshments at the Burnt Field Brewing restaurant with craft beer and legit pizza. Walking Saturday evening, we saw a great white egret fishing at the water's edge and a disc golf course along the path, so watch out for flying discs. Look for birds, bunnies, and squirrels crossing the trail.

Heading west from our campsite, we walked around the huge day-use area where numerous geese were resting. At the day-use area, there is a softball/baseball field, horseshoe pits, a playground, and a nice swimming area where you can kayak or paddle board.

There is plenty to do at Boardman RV Park and Marina and the sunsets are incredible. So get outdoors and enjoy nature.
