Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG-It was a cold and foggy day for the Waitsburg Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. The event was organized by Sarah Wilson and her women's mountain bike club and race team, Wild at Heart.
A group of energetic runners showed up at Preston Park to participate in some pre-Thanksgiving dinner outdoor activity. The weather was a bit icy for bike riders this year, so participants ran or walked along the route from the park to Huntsville and back. The full roundtrip route was 5.9 miles, with some choosing to make the turn home at the intersection of Whoopem Up Hollow Rd.
This was the first fun run for the youngest runner, five-year-old Kennedy Henze. Kennedy, with her mom Jillian, made it to the industrial park and back. Great job, Kennedy!
Accomplished runner Trish Knee commented that the turkey trot was a great community event and a fun way to enjoy the outdoors.
Over all, it was a lovely way to kick off the holidays and will be a welcomed annual event.
