Funding approved for Veteran Service Officer

WALLA WALLA —– In July 2022, Walla Walla County was selected by the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to receive a rural county veteran service officer grant. The County Veteran Service Officer (VSO) will assist veterans, and family members with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs claims. The claims include VA disability compensation, survivors’ pension, and other benefits.

The VSO can help with healthcare, housing, education, and discharge upgrades for veterans to improve their quality of life and access to benefits and healthcare.

The funding will continue through June 2023, and there is a possibility of the grant being renewed for the next fiscal year. The County VSO grant also provides financial assistance to eligible indigent veterans who reside in Walla Walla County and connects veterans and their families to available resources in the community.

Any veteran needing help with a claim or emergency assistance can call 509-524-2936 to schedule an appointment with the County Veteran Service Officer or email wcheng@co.walla-walla.wa.us.
