WALLA WALLA, COLUMBIA COUNTIES—Now is the time for high school and college students to apply for scholarships. The Walla Walla-Columbia School Retirees Association scholarship (WSSRA) offers a variety of scholarships to support future educators.
The Robert J. Handy and the WSSR Foundation scholarships are available to high school seniors seeking a career in education. That includes a teacher, counselor, speech therapist, occupational therapist, or psychologist. The Neil D. Prescott/Student Teaching/Internship Scholarships are for college students going to student teach during the 2023-24 school year. Candidates must be graduates of a Washington State high school, enrolled in a college of education program anywhere, and pursuing a career in a field of education.
The Jackie Ormsby Memorial Scholarship is available through the Blue Mountain Community Foundation. The association also offers two Jackie Ormsby Memorial Scholarships for $2,000 each. Applications are now open and must be submitted by March 1, 2023.
Candidates must be prospective teachers in other school-related fields that will student teach or do an internship experience in an educational setting to meet the requirements for initial certification.
