Palmer Places Sixth at First FFA Trap Shoot Event

WAITSBURG-Waitsburg High School senior Garrett Palmer hit 45 out of 50 clay pigeons to place sixth out of 85 shooters at the Pullman FFA Trap competition on Saturday, January 14.

Pullman High School FFA hosted the event at the Colton Gun Club in Colton. Eighteen teams attended, with Freeman High School placing first.

Five other Waitsburg High School members shot well also:  Preston Hinchliffe hit 37, William Daves 35, Abbi Paolino 31, Koyen Fortune 23, and 8th grader Akayden Mikesell hit 33 as an alternate.

Trap is shot in squads of up to five shooters. Team members shoot five shots and then move to the next station; after five stations, each shooter will have shot 25 times. Scores are tallied, and the team shoots again further from the trap house. Each shooter will have made 50 attempts at the clay targets when finished. A 12-gauge is the most popular shotgun used by competitors.

The FFA team's next competition will be Saturday, January 21, at Ritzville.
