Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
October 25, 1930 – February 1, 2023
Dayton lost lifelong resident Donna Huwe, on February 1, after a brief illness. She worked hard to help provide for her family – first for Green Giant, then as a CNA at Robinson's Nursing Home and Dayton General Hospital, where she loved caring for people. A person with a kind and giving heart, she supported a variety of community charities with her time and money.
Born to Frank and Lola Winder on October 25, 1930, Donna resided in the same house for 92 years, where she made a home for her husband of 57 years, Duane L. "Cork" Huwe, and their four children.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Donna regularly attended Christian and United Brethren church services and participated in Christian Women's meetings until health issues kept her homebound, where she participated in prayer chain and stayed connected with friends and family by phone.
An avid seamstress, she sewed for her family and others, upholstered work out of the home, created beautiful handmade dolls and angels, and shared her husband's love for woodworking (bird houses and wall plaques) which they sold at small craft fairs, but mostly they enjoyed visiting with everyone who attended. Retired, they camped in a travel trailer in Washington and Oregon, fishing at various small nearby lakes.
She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters (Ruth, Elda, Lila, Daphne); husband, Cork; and children (Steve and Lola Ann). She is survived by eight great-grandchildren; seven grandchildren; daughter Debbie, and son, Ron (Janice) Huwe, and daughter-in-law Doris – all who loved and cared for her for many years in her family home.
A memorial service for springtime is pending. Arrangements by Corbeill Funeral Home, Dayton.
