DW COMBINE—The Wolfpack boys’ basketball team won their first district game against White Swan 65-47 on February 7. On February 10, the Wolfpack battled with Columbia Burbank, losing 77-44, which will put them in a loser-out game against Mabton on February 16.
Mabton lost their first district game to Tri-City Prep 61-37 and beat Warden in a loser-out game 73-56 to stay alive in district play. The winner of the DW v. Mabton game will play the winner of the White Swan v. Cle Elum match. The losing teams will be out of contention and the winning teams will advance to State after playing at Granger on February 18 to decide which will be third and fourth seed.
In the Feb. 7 game, White Swan led DW 9-8 after one quarter. Spencer Hansen and Monte Pettichord each scored six points in the second quarter to lead the Wolfpack to a 26-15 advantage. DW played a solid second half to win the game 65-47. Hansen scored 18 points, Pettichord 14, Gage Holm 16, Ryland Kilts 12 and Benny Bryan scored five points for the Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack lost to Columbia Burbank in the second round of district competiton. The Coyotes took a 34-21 lead at halftime and extended their lead by outscoring DW 43-23 in the second half. With the 77-44 win, Columbia Burbank will play Tri-City Prep on Saturday, February 18 with the winner advancing to State as the number one seed and the loser taking the number two seed.
Hansen led the Wolfpack with 15 points and Pettichord scored 12 points and rebounded nine. Kilts scored nine points, Bryan seven and Holm scored one point in the loss.
