PRESCOTT-The Prescott Library had some unusual visitors last week, thanks to April Jackson, known as the Reptile Lady. She brought a variety of unique creatures to delight and educate kids and parents at the library.
"I began as the Reptile Lady, following in the footsteps of my father, the Reptile Man. I am motivated by a vision of reaching all the children in Washington state in order to educate and inspire a love of and respect for reptiles," explained Jackson on her website, reptilelady.org.
After being first introduced to the kids, tortoise SpongeBob ScalePants proceeded to tour the library while Jackson presented her other reptiles.
With thte help of her daughter, Jacksonshowed the kids a giant Burmese python named Mr. Pickles. Some brave children got to hold Mr. Pickles, which took about six of them.
Rocky, an iguana, and Hermoine, the alligator, were big hits with the audience and took turns being held. The bearded dragon graciously allowed its cheeks to be touched, and one of the smaller snakes let the kids wear it around their necks.
Only the Reptile Lady got to handle the snapping turtle and had to wear heavy gloves to avoid being bitten.
"As the Reptile Lady, my goal is to educate and entertain. I bring rare, exotic, and unique animals to you. It doesn't matter whether you are new to reptiles or are an aspiring herpetologist. I hope everyone leaves my shows with a newfound love and respect for reptiles," said Jackson.
