Varsity Boys Beat Patriots

WAITSBURG-The Waitsburg Cardinals varsity boys basketball team took a 12-4 first-quarter lead over Liberty Christian and held on to win 44-38 on January 6 in Waitsburg. In the fourth quarter, clutch free throws by Ryland Kilts and Blake French secured the win.  The boys are currently 2-5 in league play.

Kilts led the team with 25 points and four steals. French added nine points and five rebounds. Reuben led the team with eight rebounds, and he scored five points.  Wyaiit Booth contributed with six rebounds and three steals.

The girls varsity team lost to Liberty Christian 62-20. The Patriots had a slim 16-11 lead in the first quarter, expanding it to 31-13 at the half. The Cardinals' offense was not strong in three quarters, and with the loss, they have a 0-5 record in league play. Alyssa Hollingsworth led the team in scoring, and Addison Crenshaw led the team in rebounding.

Waitsburg's junior varsity boys lost to Liberty Christian 56-23. Rollin Carpenter and Teegan Kenney played tough defense and led the team in rebounding.  Jayton Gleason contributed with four steals.

The Cardinals played at Sunnyside Christian on Friday, January 5th.  The varsity boys lost 61-38, and the girls lost 43-12.

The teams will next play at Prescott on Friday, January 12.  They will take on Touchet on Kison Court on Saturday, January 13.
