Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Waitsburg - You have probably noticed little jars with strange questions popping up at local businesses.
Matt Elder, Waitsburg High School advisor for Youth and Government, said, "Well, this is not a clever way for someone to start a controversy and make some extra on the side. It is a strategy for Waitsburg's Youth and Government delegation to raise some extra funds before the youth legislature begins in May."
The jars will pose interesting conversation starters, and the winning responses will be settled by votes made with your donations.
Elder said they plan to pay the registration fees out of chapter funds but will need some help for the trip. By voting on important issues such as Beatles vs Elvis, Pasta vs Pizza, and, of course, Dessert vs. Desert, you can help the students fund a comfortable and meaningful trip to Olympia to work in the important halls of Washington State government.
Youth and Government is an organization run by the Washington State YMCA to interest students in lawmaking and effective government. The non-partisan program allows students to submit bills during the weeklong youth takeover at the Washington state capitol.
Please show your support every time you patronize participating businesses and help kids recognize their role in how our state runs.
Jars are now available for the first week of the fundraiser at the following business: Ten Ton Coffee, Blush Salon, Sam's Corner, and Waitsburg Grocery.
