WAITSBURG — The Waitsburg High School track team competed against twenty-two schools in Colfax in its last big invitational meet on Saturday, April 20.
Teegan Kenney placed 7th in the long jump (18’ 61/2”), and Blake French placed 8th in the triple jump (35’ 91/2”).
Alyssa Hollingsworth had a PR of 2:52.23 in the 800-meter for 12th place and tied for 15th in the long jump (12’ 9 /12”). Makenna Barron placed 8th in the high jump (4’2”).
The last meet of the regular season will be on April 30 in Pomeroy, with nine District 9 schools attending.
This year, the district qualifying meet was eliminated. For each event, the top 16 athletes from District 7 (Northeast 1B) and District 9 (Southeast 1B) will combine to move on to regionals. The placement will be based on the season’s best performances. (PRs from any meet during the season). The Cardinal men’s 4x100 relay team is number one so far this season.
Qualifying athletes will then train for regionals, held on May 15th and 18th in Ritzville. The top five boys and top four girls from each event at Regionals will advance to the state championships.
