WAITSBURG — Waitsburg track star Rueben Yutzy placed first in his four events at the District 9, 1B track meet at Pomeroy on April 30. The Cardinals men’s and women’s teams each placed 3rd out of nine.
Pomeroy’s men placed first as a team, with Dayton 6th and Prescott 9th. In the women’s, Gal-Pal took first place, Prescott 5th and Dayton 9th.
Yutzy placed first in the shot put with a personal record of 42’10” and a PR in the discus with 132’1.” He cleared 5’6” in the high jump and teamed with Teegan Kenney, Brenton Segraves and Blake French to win the 4x100 relay.

• 100-meters: Kenney 5th (PR), Segraves 8th, French 9th; Alyssa Hollingsworth 2nd, Makenna Barron 7th
• 400-meters: Kenney 5th; Marion Duncan 6th
• 800-meters: Hollingsworth 1st (PR)
• 4x200 relay: 1st (Barron, Duncan, Cedar Stegall, Hollingsworth)
• Shot put: Segraves 3rd (PR)
• Discus: Duncan 7th
• Javelin: Segraves 5th (PR)
• High jump: French 5th; Barron 3rd
• Long jump: Kenney 2nd; Hollingsworth 5th
• Triple jump: French 2nd
Yutzy, French, Kenney, Barron, Hollingsworth, Segraves, and Duncan qualified for Regionals and will compete at Ritzville on May 15 and 18. The top five boys and top four girls from Regionals will qualify for State.
