Grace Augusta Hotson Shields, longtime resident of Dayton, Washington, passed away on April 17, 2024 aged 97. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Shields (“Bob”), who taught English at Dayton High School 1969-1978.
Grace was born in Boston, Massachussetts on October 6, 1926 to Clarence and Cornelia Hinkley Hotson. She lived in various locations in childhood and early adulthood, including Minneapolis, MN, Lubbock, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Baltimore, Maryland, and Chicago, Illonois, before marrying Bob on August 20, 1960 in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado and moving to Kennewick, Washington, where all three daughters were born. The Shieldses moved to Dayton on July 4, 1969.
Grace is remembered fondly by her three daughters, Cornelia Shields, Dr. Heidi Shields and Klara Hicks, two sons-in-law, Dr. James Dull and Professor Emeritus Gregory A. Hicks, grandchildren Joshua and Edith Dull (Andrew Eubanks) and Henry and Lee Hicks.
