WHS Track team bring home medals at State

WAITSBURG - Waitsburg Cardinal Reuben Yutzy placed in two individual events at the 1B State track in Yakima May 23-25 and anchored the 4x100 relay to place 5th.

Yutzy attended State his junior year and placed 13th in the shot put with a throw of 38' 6.5".  Determined to go back to State his senior year, Yutzy put in the time, and his hard work was rewarded with a throw of 46' 4/12" earning him third place.

Brenton Segraves placed 15th in the shot put and Yutzy placed 8th in the high jump. Teegan Kenney, Blake French and Segraves also received medals as members of the 4x100 relay.

Dayton's Hikaru Iwamoto placed 7th in the 100-meter, and the Dayton 4x100 relay team placed 7th.

Coach Dan Nechodom was happy to see his team pushing each other to succeed.  "There were certainly some nerves about performing on the big stage in front of a few thousand people," said Nechodom.
