Brooklyn-based artist Jeffrey Bishop at Royal Block

WAITSBURG - The Royal Block will welcome Brooklyn, New York-based abstract artist Jeffrey Bishop, for a presentation on his fifty-year art-making practice on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 6 p.m.

After the presentation, Royal Block owner and art curator Joseph Roberts will join Bishop to discuss his work. Bishop's work has been widely exhibited and critically acclaimed.

The Royal Block and Roberts host monthly Art Talks. These round-table discussions facilitated by Roberts consider differing perceptions of a single artwork.

"Conversations about art over a glass of wine or a pint of ale are inevitable at the Royal Block," said Roberts. "Tiina and I find it fascinating that different people can see, "read," or understand the same inanimate object -an artwork- in completely different ways. Robust disagreements occasionally emerge, which are great fun," he says.

When asked whether the Art Talks are an exercise in civil discourse or an exploration of art, Roberts replied, "always."

This is a rare second Art Talk for June, following the June 8 discussion considering Bishops' amorphous work "untitled (Flow #1)." The event is free to the public (21+), and no art experience is necessary. Guests are invited to arrive early to meet and visit with the artist.

The Royal Block is an oasis for the curious, the community, and travelers seeking a refreshing sojourn. Located at 222 Main Street, Waitsburg, Wash.
