CCHS offers successful diabetes education program

DAYTON - An innovative diabetes education program at Columbia County Health System shows promising results in managing diabetes for residents. Spearheaded by Ruth Yutzy, RN, a Diabetes Education Specialist, the program is part of the health system's broader effort to address chronic health conditions in the community.

The diabetes education program offers comprehensive support and education for individuals diagnosed with diabetes. It aims to improve their quality of life through better blood sugar management. Participants receive personalized care plans, dietary guidance, and regular monitoring of their A1c levels-a crucial measure of blood sugar control over time.

One of the program's success stories includes a participant who began with an A1c level of 15.2, indicating an average blood sugar of approximately 390 mg/dL. After participating in the program, this individual's average blood sugar level dropped to 163 mg/dL, which corresponds to an A1c of 7.2.

"Seeing such significant improvements in our participants' health is incredibly rewarding," said Yutzy. "Our goal is to provide the tools and support necessary for individuals to take control of their diabetes and lead healthier lives."

Participants in the program also have shared their positive experiences. One individual remarked, "Before joining the program, my blood sugar levels were out of control. Thanks to the education and support I received, I now feel more confident in managing my condition and maintaining healthier habits."

Columbia County Health System's diabetes education program is an existing initiative that continues to evolve and adapt to meet the community's needs. The program includes individual counseling sessions and ongoing follow-up to ensure participants stay on track with their health goals.
