DAYTON — “Fly Me to the Moon” starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, is a sharp, stylish comedy-drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing. Brought in to fix NASA’s public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones (Johansson) wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’ (Tatum) already difficult task. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins…
Rotten Tomatoes critics had this to say about “Fly me to the Moon,” “Sustained by Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum’s screwball chemistry even when its plotting strains credulity, this throwback romance is a pleasant enough trip to the moon and back.”
It was rated 66% favorable by critics and 91% by audiences. The movie is rated PG-13 for some strong language and smoking, the IMDb parents’ guide rated it as mild for profanity, alcohol and drugs, and frightening and intense scenes. The movie runs for 132 minutes.
The Liberty Theater will present “Paddington 2” on July 23, and 26, at 1 p.m. for its last free summer movie. A small popcorn and small beverage are available for only $2.
The movie’s summary: Settled in with the Brown family, Paddington the bear is a popular member of the community who spreads joy and marmalade wherever he goes. One fine day, he spots a pop-up book in an antique shop -- the perfect present for his beloved aunt’s 100th birthday. When a thief steals the prized book, Paddington embarks on an epic quest to unmask the culprit before Aunt Lucy’s big celebration. Rotten Tomatoes critics note that “‘Paddington 2’ honors its star’s rich legacy with a sweet-natured sequel whose adorable visuals are matched by a story perfectly balanced between heartwarming family fare and purely enjoyable all-ages adventure.”
The Liberty Theater will hold its annual yard sale behind the theater, in the “annex” building accessed from the alley. The yard sale will be 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Friday, July 26, and 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, July 27. All proceeds benefit the theater.
On July 30 and August 2, from 2 to 5 p.m., there will be free cast sign-ups for the Missoula Children’s Theater presentation of “Treasure Island.” Rehearsals will be every day August 5-9 and performances will be Friday, August 9 at 7 pm, and again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
