The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe and Macabre Cocktails

WALLA WALLA - The American writer Edgar Allan Poe is considered by many as the master of macabre. The Gesa Power House Theater in Walla Walla, presented The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy, a chilling cocktail experience presenting four of Poe's stories.

The stories were presented by historians and paired with four themed cocktails. The 90-minute sold-out experience was limited to a small number of guests on July 18-19.

The darkened stage was lit with a few lanterns during the speakeasy as Poe's tales came to life, one sip at a time.

The first historian gave a chilling reading of "Tell-Tale Heart" as the audience sipped a Pale Blue Eye cocktail. Edgar's Twisted Brandy Milk Punch was served while listening to "The Raven," the Cocktail of Red Death was enjoyed during a reading of "The Masque of Red Death." The Nevermore, a black vodka cocktail, was served as "The Black Cat" wrapped up the evening.
