WAITSBURG-From October 19 to November 23, Explore artwork by Rachel L. Smith at Tate Art Waitsburg Studio. Greg and Twila Tate, owners of the studio, invite the public to the opening reception on Saturday, October 19 from 4 p.m to 7 p.m.
Smith is a multidisciplinary artist working with ephemeral materials to create mixed-media, collage, performance, and installation works.
"My practice is built on collecting, altering and combining ephemeral materials, thread and unrelated subject matter that can range from hand written notes to idle exchanges, which develop into accidental and intentional collaborations. The use of thread in my work represents connectedness, power and fragility, said Smith in her artist statement.
Smith's work can be seen in permanent collections, including the International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction in Ft. Worth, Texas, and the Brooklyn Art Library in New York.
Smith is an Associate Professor of Art at Columbia Basin College, curator, and practicing studio artist in Walla Walla, Wash.
Opening reception on Saturday, October 19th, 4:00-7:00 pm. at Tate Art, 137 Main Street, Waitsburg.
Tate Art Studio hours of operation are Fridays and Saturdays, 1:00 - 6:00 pm. or by appointment.
