[Photo Caption] Hailey Joy Mead was born October 6, 2014 at Walla Walla General Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces and measured 20 ¾ inches long. Her parents are Charlie Mead of Dayton and Whitney Mead, formerly of Harrington. The grandparents are Skip and Julia Mead of Dayton, Rick and Max Becker of Harrington and Buck Badgley of Davenport. Her great-grandparents are Joy Ross of Chewelah, Dot Mead of Dayton and Ruth and Lynn Schliecker of Estacada, OR.

October 21, 1999

Dan Curry, special effects producer on various Star Trek television series for the past 12 years, will present a lecture, slideshow and video on his work when he visits the Whitman College campus Friday, October 29. Curry joined the Star Trek series during the first season of The Next Generation. Since then his work on Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager has earned him four Emmy Awards, three International Monitor Awards, the first Digital Hollywood Award, and the United Kingdom's Cult TV Award for best special visual effects. Curry began his career in the entertainment industry as an artist at Universal Studios working on Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Battlestar Galactica. He has also contributed to more than 100 films, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Top Gun, as well as numerous television productions.

October 25, 1974

'Around Town'~ You can take the farmer's wife off the farm but she's still going to do some farming. A friend who shall be nameless sent us a clipping from the Sun City, AZ newspaper showing former Waitsburgite, Mrs. Don Abbey holding an eight-pound cantaloupe which she grew in a tree-well under her lemon trees. It is nice to know that even with retirement, Amelia still has time to keep her green thumb operating.

October 28, 1949

Mrs. Miles Collingwood accompanied Marveline Roach, Joan Collingwood and Beverly Roberts to Yakima last weekend where they attended a Methodist Youth Conference.

A new Junior Federated Club for young married women was organized last week and has been named Odako Club. They are sponsored by Amity Art Club with Mrs. Ernest Kison and Mrs. Fred Harris as advisors. There were 12 charter members.

John Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Anderson, is playing on the freshman football squad at Dartmouth, and has seen considerable action in the freshman league.

One Hundred Years Ago

November 7, 1924

Mr. Wade Wolfe, well-known Huntsville resident has purchased the general store at Huntsville from Donald Walker and assumed possession November 1st.

They came-they saw-they conquered. This is the brief history of the annual football fracas between the high school teams of Dayton and Waitsburg. The game was a disappointment to local fans, not because of the defeat at 26 to 0, but because the local team failed to use the power which it is known that they possess.

October 27th, 1899

Misses Rosa and Augusta Clodius were down on their father's Dry Creek farm gathering in the precious apple crop Saturday.

Ex-Mayor E. L. Powell of Spokane an old time Waitsburger, and who has a host of friends here, this week sold his handsome three-story brick in Spokane for $40,000.

Mrs. Dr. Adair gives instructions to private pupils in Free-hand drawing and portrait painting with pastel crayon and water colours. Also figure drawing and sketching from nature. Terms moderate.
