Dayton – Collection week for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes is November 17–24, 2014. Twenty-one years ago David C. Cook decided to pack simple gifts in a shoebox for child victims of the Bosnian war. To date, over 100 million shoeboxes have been given to needy children around the world. Operated through Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child is the world's largest Christmas project of its kind. Dayton-Waitsburg-Prescott area donors gave 295 shoeboxes last year- over a hundred more than the year prior.

"A Special Place," A poem by Sharon Weyand.
"It's a new town, it's a whole new place, the people all smile hello as you meet face to face.
Not the fast pace of the city lived in before, but a peaceful place - like the ocean coming ashore.
Gentle and quiet as when the tide is low, but richer in beauty than even the rainbow.
A sparkling, clear stream runs through the town, glittering in the sun like jewels upon a crown.
And the mountains surrounding hold their own, their might and power protruding with an undertone.
And the people of Waitsburg have a special flair, a more charming place I know not where.

The 40-foot triumphal arch across Main Street is about completed. It will indeed be handsome. The church bell which the boys sent from Pasig, hangs under the arch. The word "Welcome" in large letters, made by electric lights also adorns the arch.
