As a Naval aviator during World War II, Vaughn Hubbard flew 60 combat missions in the Atlantic and South Pacific. Hubbard, 77, is a retired long-time attorney who practiced law in Waitsburg since 1951, retiring in 1992. Hubbard was 19 and in his first year at Washington State College in Pullman when the Japanese attacked Pear Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He answered the call to duty by quitting school and going to Lewiston, where he enlisted in the U. S Navy.

"Turn President Ford's 'Win' button over, and it spells 'NIM,' no immediate miracles," Bill Barrett of PCA in Spokane told a city-farm swap group in Dayton Tuesday evening. The meeting, sponsored by the Columbia County Cattlemen, was centered around the problems facing the livestock feeder and the pressures caused by inflation. Barrett told the group that he believed a 10 or 15 percent surtax would solve the problem. In addition, he said that the government has to stop deficit spending, speculation borrowing must be stopped, along with excessive wage and salary increases. Barrett said that inflation is the unfairest tax of all.

Jim Mays and Dee DeVaney were winners of the football wards presented at the annual banquet for the players and their dads at a banquet prepared by mothers on Nov. 17.
Miss Mazel Travis will become the bride of Sheldon Hawes on Dec. 18 at the Christian Church. Miss Travis has made her home for the past two years with her sister, Mrs. Carl Williams.
Scouts Dick Brunton, Marvin Klundt, and Bob Wright camped overnight at the junction of the Coppei and Touchet Rivers last weekend.

The 3-act comedy "Jane" presented by the Senior Class went over in a very acceptable manner. The cast was composed of Gladys Cox, Verla Piatt, Dorothy Call, Velma Baxter, Fred McConnell, John Caley Donald Glover, Harvey Stonecipher, and Roy Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Conover are arranging for a family reunion on Thanksgiving Day. All their children and grandchildren will be home to spend the day and feast on the Thanksgiving bird. There will be C. M. Russell and family of Prescott; Harry Conover and family, Millwood; Vernon Conover and family, St Maries; Allen Brunson and family and Glen Conover and family, of near this city.

Jack Woods of this city sold 40,000 bushels of club wheat a few days ago for 43 cents per bushel. This was the only wheat to change hands for some time, dealers report, owing to the very low price prevailing at present.
Miss Dolly Batemen of Huntsville and Mr. Fred Porter of Covello were married at the residence of the bride's parents Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock. The contracting parties are well known in this vicinity, having many friends.
