If anyone in Waitsburg can talk turkey, pass this message along to the local flock: You're safe for now but watch out! The Waitsburg Lions Club will be smoking another batch of turkeys come Christmas! All kidding aside, Waitsburg's flock of wild turkeys is forever safe from the local Lions Club which concluded the cooking segment of its Thanksgiving turkey smoking project yesterday and now has the delicious smoked birds to sell for the upcoming holiday. The reduced sodium and lightly smoked turkeys are for sale for $25 from any Lions Club member, at the Waitsburg Cenex service station.

Southeast Washington's Blue Mountains topped all other elk hunting areas this year for producing the most success stories, as the 1974 general bull elk hunt closed with the year's first major winter storm. In contrast to last year, when heavy snow at the end of October denied hunter access into the Blues, hunting conditions were excellent throughout the season, providing a substantial harvest in this area which did not occur in 1973. As of Sunday evening, a Blue Mountains total of 4106 hunters had been tallied by Game Department personnel with 808 elk for a success ratio of one elk for every five hunters checked.
