Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG - Waitsburg Middle School boys basketball A team beat Desales and Liberty Christian before losing its first game of the season to Touchet. The B team lost to Desales and Liberty Christian and then won against Touchet. The C team won its first season game against Touchet on November 20 in Waitsburg.
At Desales on November 14, the Cardinals A team won 33-25. Liam Kiefel scored 11 points, Alex Zuniga scored 10, Alex Watson scored seven, Carter Barron with three, and Jake Lynch scored two points.
Wiley Gagnon scored 11 points for the B team, and Arrow Groom scored six.
"Although the B team lost, they figured out how to get the ball in the paint," said Coach Gabe Kiefel.
The Cardinal A team won a competitive game at Liberty Christian on November 18. Waitsburg boys did not let the noise from the hostile crowd deter them, and they came away with a 33-32 win. Lynch led the team in scoring with 11 points and rebounded 11. Zuniga scored nine, and Watson and Kiefel scored five. Barron had two points, and Cody Coulston added one.
The B team played well defensively at LC but struggled to get the ball in the hoop.
In Waitsburg on November 20 against Touchet, the C team won 31-22. Leading the scoring was Watson, who scored 15 points in the game. Kacen Hubbard added seven, and Emerson Kiefel scored five points for their team.
Arrow Groom led the B team in the win against Touchet with eight points. Gagnon added six, Ollivyr Dahlby and Damian Brown added four points each, Ethan Watson had three points, Hubbard two, and Flynn Richardson scored one point.
In the A game, Waitsburg lost 66-26. Kiefel led with 10 points, Barron scored on two-three-point shots, Zuniga added four, and A. Watson, Lynch, and Carsyn Pennington each scored two points.
"Playing three games against Touchet was great for our program," said Kiefel. "Every player received a lot of playing time."
