WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg Lady Cardinals won one of three basketball games last week. On Tuesday, January 28, they beat the Touchet Redhawks 51-44. On Thursday, January 30, the girls lost to Moses Lake Christian 48-20, and then they fell to the Pomeroy Pirates on Saturday, February 1, 57-13.
In her last week in a Cardinal uniform, senior Alyssa Hollingsworth scored 26 points in the win against Touchet. Freshman Cheri Mathews scored 11 points, and sophomore Hannah Peralez scored nine points.
Against Moses Lake Christian, Hollingsworth scored 15 of her team's 20 points. She also had 14 rebounds.
Hollingsworth hit three-3-point shots in the first quarter against Pomeroy on February 1 on senior night. In the loss, senior Kaydance played big and rebounded five.
"I think the girls have improved so much over the year," said first-year coach Kira Waggoner.
Waggoner had a lot of fun coaching the girls and is excited to watch them grow and see the players they become in the next couple of years.
The players will sell Little Caesar Pizza coupons through February to earn money to attend a summer basketball camp.
