YWCA honors Executive Director's 28 Years of Leadership on her retirement

WALLA WALLA - The YWCA Walla Walla Board of Directors announced the upcoming retirement of Anne-Marie Schwerin as Executive Director after over 24 years, effective spring.

Schwerin came to the YWCA as Chief Financial Officer in 1996, following a career in public accounting and agribusiness management. Under her leadership, YWCA Walla Walla has significantly expanded its impact, enhancing programs and services for individuals and families in Walla Walla and Dayton

Key achievements include the introduction of comprehensive domestic violence support services, women's empowerment initiatives, and childcare programs supporting hundreds of local families.

"Anne-Marie's tireless dedication and inspiring advocacy, along with strong donor and volunteer engagement, have made YWCA Walla Walla a cornerstone in our community," said Becky Kettner, Board President.

During Schwerin's tenure, YWCA Walla Walla achieved several key milestones and accomplishments that have strengthened the organization's capacity to serve the community:

Expansion of Services: Under Schwerin's leadership, the YWCA significantly expanded its programs, including introducing comprehensive domestic violence support services, a women's empowerment initiative, and childcare programs supporting hundreds of local families in need.

Increased Community Outreach and Advocacy: Schwerin led successful efforts to raise awareness and advocate for critical issues, such as gender-based violence, racial justice, and economic equality. The YWCA's public policy work has made an enduring impact.

Strong Capital Funding and Financial Stability: Schwerin played a pivotal role in securing critical capital funding and overseeing the management of grants that have helped build a solid financial foundation for the organization. This strong financial framework has ensured the sustainability of YWCA's programs and services, allowing it to weather economic downturns while continuing to grow in its mission.

A video update from Schwerin on this exciting next step for her will follow.

The Board of Directors has initiated the process of identifying an interim Executive Director and will conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent successor. This process will be thoughtful and inclusive, with input from staff, stakeholders, and community partners.

"We are confident that the future of YWCA Walla Walla is bright," Kettner added. "We remain committed to providing crucial services to our communities in Walla Walla and Dayton."

The board invites community members to celebrate Schwerin's legacy in the coming months. More details will be provided as they become available.
