Bid approved for gym repairs, donation accepted for scoreboards
DAYTON — The Dayton School Board met in the high school library at 6:30 p.m. on January 22, 2025. Superintendent Jeremy Wheatley, Business Manager Jana Eaton, and Student Representative Lila Hutchens were present. Board Chair Jeffrey McCowen and board members Aneesha Dieu, Grant Griffin, and Ryan Paulson were present.
A board position remains vacant, and persons interested in volunteering should contact the district office for more information.
The board re-elected McCowen as board chair and Griffin vice chair.
In the consent agenda, the board approved hiring Paul Forney as the High School Head Softball Coach and Shaelyn Jenkins as the Camp Wooten director. It also approved a donation from David, Dianne, and Clayton McKinley of Double D Farms for $500 for the baseball and softball scoreboards. The board also approved an overnight trip for some members of the district’s FFA to participate in the State Trapshooting Invitational in Wenatchee.
In the ASB report, Hutchins said that HS students with passing grades will get to participate in a reward trip to the trampoline park in Richland on February 12, 2025. The trip will also include a shopping visit to the mall.
Hutchins listed December’s HS Students of the Month:
Grade 12 – Ana Czapka, 11 – Carson Potter, 10 – Bonnie Anderson, 9 – Karmain Pollan, 8 – Christina Helfer, 7 -_Brailyn Sterns, and 6 – Lincoln Johnson. Teachers and staff chose the students of the month for their artistic abilities.
Drew Wright, Territory Manager for Garland Industries/Design-Build Solutions, spoke about the scope of the project, based on input from the school district, to repair the gymnasium roof. His briefing was detailed and lengthy. Premier Roofing, Richland, submitted the project’s lowest bid of $431,312. Later in the meeting, the board voted unanimously to approve Premier’s bid.
